Due to BIOS upgrade, some Dell systems cannot start

Some Dell users stated that their devices experienced serious startup problems after installing the latest BIOS update. Certain models of Alienware, Inspiron and Latitude systems are affected. Many devices display blue screens and other errors.

Bleeping Computer reported that certain models of Dell PCs are affected by boot issues due to the new BIOS update. Users described their startup problems on the Dell community website and social media. These problems usually involve blue screens and shutdowns, although some devices will turn on, but their displays will remain off. Other Dell users stated that their systems will shut down within a few seconds of powering on. The "time not set" error also appears on some laptops.

The problematic models include Alienware Aurora R8 (BIOS version 1.0.18) and Dell Inspiron 5680 (BIOS version 2.8.0) desktops and Dell Latitude 5320 and 5520 (BIOS version 1.14.3) laptops.

Some users have discovered a way to resolve the "time not set" error displayed on the laptop by downgrading the BIOS. However, only devices that can be started have a chance to be repaired, and the process is not simple, especially for ordinary Dell users. In addition, the startup problem may persist until the battery is removed and repair work cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, it is recommended that affected users contact Dell Support, use Dell's official guide or wait for a valid BIOS update.
